Newcastle have been bolstered for Monday night's clash with premiers Melbourne at Olympic Park by the return of Test forward Steve Simpson and skipper Danny Buderus.

Simpson has been named on the bench for his first game since round one while Buderus is back after missing last Saturday's win over Gold Coast.

Canberra welcome back Queensland enforcer Neville Costigan for Saturday's clash with the Sydney Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium.

Hulking Parramatta centre Ben Smith will play his first game of the season against St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.

Cronulla have named halfback Brett Kimmorley for Saturday's clash with the Cowboys in Townsville despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future at the club.
