Two of rugby league’s greatest minds have come together to pick the players they believe should be in NSW’s State of Origin team for Game I.
Steve Roach and Darryl Brohman have leapt into the debate over the Blues’ Origin lineup, putting on their own selection meeting to come up with their best NSW side.
The two Continuous Call Team big guns, in the guise of actual selectors Bob McCarthy (Roach) and Geoff Gerard (Brohman), had their selection meeting on air on Sunday afternoon, with fellow CCT member Andrew Moore taking on the role of chairman Colin Love and having the deciding vote on selections.
The trio considered a surprise selection of Hazem El Masri before deciding on Jarryd Hayne and Anthony Quinn on the wings, with Jamie Lyon’s defensive prowess earning him a start in the centres.
Greg Bird got the nod at five-eighth, with Knights fullback Kurt Gidley being given the halfback role.
Brent Kite and Brett White are the starting props, with Danny Buderus captaining the side at hooker. Ryan Hoffman, Anthony Laffranchi and Paul Gallen form a formidable back row.
Brett Finch got the nod over Jarrod Mullen on the bench (against the wishes of the Big Maan), alongside forwards Ben Cross, Anthony Tupou and Willie Mason.
