Cronulla half Brett Kimmorley will join the Bulldogs from 2009 after today signing a two-year deal with the club.

Kimmorley, who has been granted a release from the final year of his contract with the Sharks, will play out the remainder of the season with the Sutherland Shire club before heading to Belmore next year.

The Bulldogs are desperately short of quality playmakers and have this week rushed through the signing of Penrith reject Joe Williams to take on the Titans on Friday night.

The Bulldogs will hope Kimmorley can fill a void left by the departure of Brent Sherwin in the off-season.

"We've lacked an experienced halfback for a couple of years now and Brett provides the answer," Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said in a statement.

"He has a successful track record at the highest levels of rugby league and his leadership will be a real asset for the Bulldogs."

Incoming coach Kevin Moore said Kimmorley was a key signing.

"He's exactly the style of person we want at our club," Moore said.

"We feel he has a lot to offer in the way he conducts himself both on and off the field.

"I think he'll be a great role model and will fit in well in the blue and white.

"His training ethic is second to none, he's tough and a real competitor."

The move is expected to open the way for Wigan star Trent Barrett to link with Cronulla once his request for a release from the English Super League club is finalised.

Kimmorley brings with him a top-class rugby league CV, having won a premiership with Melbourne and represented New South Wales and Australia.

He has already played under incoming Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore, who has acted as an assistant coach with both the Blues and the Kangaroos.

He ticks all the boxes; he's the ultimate professional... Bulldogs boss Todd Greenberg
