VIDEO - Justin Hodges reminds me of a time when...
Well done to Brisbane centre Justin Hodges for adding a bit of humour to the week in rugby league... in light of the on-going stuff with Sonny Bill Squillians and Todd -"I can’t control myself on the drink"- Carney.
At his judiciary appearance last night - where he ended up receiving a two game suspension for his gesture toward referee Tony Archer - Hodges said the gesture wasn’t directed at the referee but at himself... what the???
He also says it’s a gesture he commonly uses at the race track when he’s cheering on a horse he’s backed... I dare say after the horse was beaten.
As I say, I’m not sure whether Justin meant to give us a laugh, but he did anyway... so thanks for that.
I remember way back in 1986... when Canterbury front rower Peter Kelly was sent from the field for a very high tackle on South Sydney winger Ross Harrington... the very first tackle of the ANZAC Day game at the SCG. It was a shocker.
Anyway, at the judiciary on the Monday night (as it was back then)... upon being asked how do you plead, Kelly replied 'Not Guilty' - to which the late, great Peter Moore, representing Kell, nearly coughed up a lung.
When shown the blatant high shot on slow motion replay, Peter Kelly still denied it was a high tackle - saying if it was really high, Harrington would never have made it back to his feet.
Peter Moore - now there was a great character in rugby league - he once famously solved an issue involving Terry Lamb.
'Bullfrog', who also was on the Board of the New South Wales Rugby League, was so concerned about how every single club was chasing 'Baa Baa' - he called a dinner meeting for all of the chief executives.... to work out more amicable ways of pursuing players.
All the CEO’s turned up to dinner. Bar one. Yep, Peter Moore failed to attend because... he was at Terry Lamb’s house signing him to a long term contract with the Bulldogs.
Now that’s the sort of deceit I like - involving characters, not clowns like that 'imbo' in France - I miss you Bullfrog... and so do the Bulldogs.
He also says it’s a gesture he commonly uses at the race track when he’s cheering on a horse he’s backed... I dare say after the horse was beaten...
