There seems to be a fair bit of drama at the moment out of Penrith with general manager Mick Leary blasting the players AND coach Matthew Elliott after last weekend’s embarrassing loss to Canberra.
Leary also had a shot at Elliott for getting together for a chat with sacked Canberra halfback Todd Carney and hinting that the Panthers might be keen on signing him.
Leary says Carney won’t be pursued by Penrith now or at any time in the future.
Elliott has also upset the boss of Windsor, which is the Panthers feeder team in the New South Wales Cup.
Elliott had said he couldn’t make many changes to his first grade team, because there was no one else worth considering... Windsor president Dick Prior says his team has been beaten just twice in the last three months... and says Elliott’s comments were a kick in the teeth to his club and for the players.
Not a good sign for the Panthers... who are fighting to make the NRL finals.
