Darryl 'The Big Marn' Brohman

Full name: Darryl Brohman
Date of birth: 22 June 1956 (age 51)
Place of birth: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Youth clubs: Norths Brisbane
Senior clubs:
Penrith Panthers 1979 - 1983
Canterbury Bulldogs, 1984 - 1985
Penrith Panthers, 1986 -1987
Representative teams: Queensland 1983, 1986

Darryl Brohman was a talented, big-boned, ball-playing forward (according to some) and played for the Canterbury Bulldogs in their 1984 Grand Final win against Parramatta under the leadership of the legendary Steve Mortimer.

Strong and hard to tackle - with a deft touch, a robust football brain and an unhealthy obsession with Cadbury Top Deck - Brohman seemed cast from the same mould as Parramatta great Dick Thornett, with basal elements of Queensland and Australian great Arthur Beetson.

In the NSWRL, Brohman played for the Penrith Panthers (1979-1983), captaining the side from 1982-83.

Brohman switched to the Bulldogs in 1984-85, before returning to Penrith in 1986-87 with his final match the Reserve Grade Final

Brohman took up coaching in 1988, guiding Brisbane's reserve grade team before returning to Canterbury to again coach the reserves.

Brohman's name was etched in the annals of rugby league history when his jaw broken by a vicious Les Boyd elbow on his Origin debut for Queensland. The act saw Boyd suspended from the game for twelve months, with Brohman sidelined for the remainder of the season.

In 2006, he was nominated as the one of front rowers in the 40th Anniversary Penrith Panthers "Team of Legends".
